Friends:
The stage is set now for the November 3rd General Election. We know that Senator Doug Jones will be opposed by CoachTommy Tuberville; and while the Conventions have not yet spoken, we can be certain that President Trump will be opposed by Vice-President Biden. It is certainly going to be an interesting few months of television and internet campaign ads.
I want to share information with you now about absentee voting in Alabama. Alabamians who are concerned about the coronavirus have the right to cast an absentee ballot. Here are the steps:
1. Obtain an application for an absentee ballot online by clicking here; or
2. By going to or calling your county’s “absentee election manager’s office.” You can locate that office by clicking here . In Jefferson County, that is our County Clerk, Jackie Smith, located at 716 Richard Arrington, Jr. Blvd N, Room 500; phone number 205.325.5313; or
3. You may contact the AL Secretary of State’s Office at 334.242.7210.
It is my understanding that even if none of the other “information boxes” are applicable to you on the absentee ballot application, if you want to cast an absentee vote based on COVID, you simply check the box for: “I have a physical illness or infirmity which prevents my attendance at the polls.” No further explanation is required from you.
The deadlines for the upcoming November 3rd General Election are:
- October 19th to register to vote.
- October 29th to submit an absentee ballot application.
- November 2nd to return an absentee ballot to your county’s absentee election manager.
Of course, you can always vote in person. And, please remember, that no matter how you voted in a primary, and no matter which primary you voted in, you may always vote for the candidate of your choice, regardless of party!
Please let me know if you have any questions about the process.
